CARL FRAMPTON will move up to featherweight to fight WBA world champion Leo Santa Cruz in New York some time in the summer.

The Ulsterman took to Twitter to confirm that a deal has been reached for the much-anticipated clash to take place, with further details – like a date and venue – to be confirmed next week.

Frampton added the WBA world super-bantamweight title to his IBF bauble in February when he outpointed domestic rival Scott Quigg in Manchester.

He was subsequently stripped of the WBA bauble for failing to open negotiations with mandatory challenger Guillermo Rigondeaux, a fight that would have generated far less money than the Santa Cruz showdown.

Santa Cruz, a former bantam and super-bantamweight titlist, picked up the featherweight crown when he defeated Abner Mares in an exciting clash last August.

US broadcast heavyweights Showtime included Santa Cruz-Frampton in their summer schedule, and are expected to have exclusive TV rights for it in the US while a UK broadcaster is yet to be confirmed.
