VASYL LOMACHENKO, the WBO super-featherweight champion, has issued a demand to Floyd Mayweather. Not calling out “Money” himself, he wants to box the Mayweather-promoted super-feather Gervonta Davis. Lomachenko tweeted, “Floyd Mayweather, it would have been an honour to fight you in your prime but I’m not talking about you. Please stop hiding your fighter.”
But who are the best next opponents for Lomachenko? Here’s our shortlist:
1. Jorge Linares
Lomachenko is already a two-weight world champion, after only 11 fights. He could move up to lightweight and challenge for a world title in a third division. Linares is a superb talent himself and the two would surely combine for a sublime fight.
2. Gervonta Davis
The American lost his IBF super-featherweight world title on the scales but he is unbeaten and has a flashy dangerous style. Davis oozes confident and he does have power.
3. Orlando Salido
Salido announced his retirement but seems to have quickly changed his mind. He remains the only professional to have beaten Lomachenko and it would look good for Lomachenko’s legacy to settle the score.
4. Mikey Garcia
Garcia could be one of the most demanding opponents for Lomachenko. He looks set to stay above lightweight and fight at 140lbs, which could put him out of Lomachenko’s reach.
5. Miguel Berchelt
A world title unification is the obvious next move for Lomachenko. Mexico’s Miguel Berchelt is the WBC super-featherweight and would bring an exciting style to the contest.
