VASYL LOMACHENKO will fight WBA lightweight champion Jorge Linares, according to reports in America.
It’s a match that pits two of the finest talents in the sport against one another. Linares has dazzled as he has defeated Kevin Mitchell, Anthony Crolla and Luke Campbell. Lomachenko, a two-weight Olympic gold medallist, is already a two weight world champion in only 11 fights.
The fight is hugely appealing. On Monday Golden Boy promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, who represents Linares, called for it publicly, saying, “As excited as anyone that big fight between Jorge Linares and Vasyl Lomachenko is getting close. But it’s not done yet. And until lead promoter Bob Arum picks up the phone and calls Eric Gomez nothing can proceed.”
But they appear now to have crossed the final hurdles. The LA Times are reporting that the two will fight on May 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
